Boikanyo Modeling Extraordinaire (BME), a Maun based modeling company, last week donated netball playing kit worth over P3 000 to the Sexaxa settlement’s Gaslow Netball Club ahead of the start of their constituency tournament games, due to start in a week’s time.
The event was held at Sexaxa’s main kgotla and was used to give the youth motivational talks aimed to encourage them to explore their talents in areas of sport, arts and culture.
The councillor for Matlapaneng, Tapologo Mosika, applauded the efforts of BME for their generosity and urged Sexaxa youth to learn from the director of the company, Boikanyo Phenyo- a Sexaxa-born model based in the United Kingdom as a model and organiser/director of various beauty pageants – on a mission to change their livelihood.
He highlighted that the beauty queen is not only raising the flag of Botswana but also of Sexaxa. Mosika said BME is giving back to community so that those who are receiving the donation could also give back in the future. The councillor encouraged the youth to take their education seriously and use the opportunities presented by the government policies on youth empowerment to better their lives.
A youth from the village, John Neelo, told the gathering that through sport they can improve their lives both in sport and career. He asked the recipients of the donated kit to be motivated and play to the best of their ability in every game.
Neelo said that with consistent good performance, there comes opportunity to be spotted by the mainstream league teams which can also open career prospects. “Look after the kit and make it a trademark that you can be identified with, in the process you will be growing the BME brand as you will be taking it to other places where you will play your games and other tournaments,” he said. The kit was handed over to the team’s captain by Miss BME 2013, Lesego George. In her acceptance remarks, the captain, Yaone Keemetsekgosi, hailed BME’s gesture and paid tribute to Boikanyo Phenyo’s mother for having raised her daughter well to become a role model to them, Sexaxa youth, as well other youth across the country and called on other parents to support their children in their different chosen disciplines.
